And a 10% increase in risk for every 3 and a half ounces of unprocessed red meat they consume daily. While this isn\u2019t proof of causation. There are at least 4 ways that meat can contribute to type 2 diabetes. No. 1, red meat tends to be high in saturated fat which is known to cause insulin resistance. No. 2, red and processed meat is associated with obesity in most studies. No. 3, meat increases TMAO or trimethylamine and oxide which interferes with insulin signaling. No. 4, heme iron which is in red meat is inflammatory and maybe toxic to the pancreas.
