What’s healthier, fresh or frozen? You may be surprised at the answer. When buying produce, a common question is which is healthier, fresh or frozen? The logical answer is that well, fresh vegetables should always be better. But it’s not that simple. Research actually says that frozen produce can often be just as healthy, if not healthier, than fresh produce. A study comparing the nutritional content of common fresh produce compared to their frozen counterparts of corn, carrots, broccoli, spinach, peas, green beans, strawberries and blue blueberries found that the vitamins in frozen frozen produce are comparable to and occasionally higher than their fresh counterparts. Other studies found that the only major nutritional difference between fresh and frozen produce is when refrigerated fresh produce starts to lose nutrients after a few days.
